What is Zakat?

Zakat (زکات) is one of the Five Pillars of Islam — an obligatory annual charity of 2.5% on qualifying net wealth held above the Nisab threshold for a full lunar year (Hawl). It purifies wealth and supports those in need.

☪️ 5th Pillar of Islam📅 Annual (Hawl — lunar year)💎 2.5% of net zakatable wealth🌍 Obligatory on all eligible Muslims

About the Zakat Calculator

A zakat calculator works out the amount of zakat owed on your qualifying wealth, based on the standard 2.5% rate applied once your assets exceed the nisab threshold. Enter your cash savings, gold, silver, investments, and any business assets, and the tool totals everything up and calculates what's due.

Why This Tool Exists

Working out zakat manually means adding up cash, gold value, investments, and any owed debts correctly before applying the percentage — easy to get wrong if you're doing it by hand once a year. This tool exists to make that yearly calculation quick and accurate.

How to Use It

  1. Step 1. Enter your cash savings, bank balances, and any gold or silver holdings.
  2. Step 2. Add any investments or business assets that qualify.
  3. Step 3. Subtract any short-term debts owed, if applicable.
  4. Step 4. Click Calculate to see your total zakatable wealth and amount due.

Key Features & Benefits

How It Works

Zakat is calculated as 2.5% of your total zakatable wealth, but only once that wealth exceeds the nisab threshold — a minimum amount based on the current value of gold or silver. So if your qualifying assets total $10,000 and you're above the nisab threshold, your zakat due would be $250. The calculator totals cash, precious metals, and eligible investments, then applies this rate automatically.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is nisab and why does it matter?

Nisab is the minimum amount of wealth a person must have before zakat becomes obligatory, traditionally based on the value of 87.48g of gold or 612.36g of silver.

What assets count toward zakat?

Cash, savings, gold, silver, tradeable investments, and business inventory generally qualify. Personal-use items like your home or car typically don't.

Is zakat always exactly 2.5%?

For cash, gold, silver, and most financial assets, yes — 2.5% is the standard rate, though agricultural produce and livestock follow different rules.

Can I subtract debts before calculating zakat?

Generally, short-term debts due within the year can be subtracted from your total assets before applying the 2.5% zakat rate.

How often is zakat calculated?

Zakat is typically calculated once a year on wealth that has been held for a full lunar year (hawl), often done during Ramadan.
