About the Pivot Point Calculator

A pivot point calculator works out key support and resistance levels for a trading day, based on the previous session's high, low, and close prices. Traders use these levels to identify likely turning points or breakout zones before the market even opens, and this tool generates them instantly using the standard formula.

Why This Tool Exists

Manually calculating pivot points and multiple support/resistance levels every trading day is tedious, especially across several instruments. This tool exists to generate all of those levels in seconds from just three numbers — yesterday's high, low, and close.

How to Use It

  1. Step 1. Enter the previous session's high, low, and closing prices.
  2. Step 2. Click Calculate.
  3. Step 3. See the main pivot point along with support (S1, S2, S3) and resistance (R1, R2, R3) levels.
  4. Step 4. Use these levels to plan entries, exits, or stop-loss placement for the session.

Key Features & Benefits

How It Works

The classic pivot point formula is (High + Low + Close) ÷ 3. From there, resistance and support levels are derived: R1 = (2 × Pivot) − Low, S1 = (2 × Pivot) − High, with R2, R3, S2, S3 extending further using variations of the high-low range. These levels give traders reference points where price has historically tended to react, without needing any indicators loaded on a chart.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a pivot point in trading?

It's a calculated price level derived from the previous period's high, low, and close, used to identify potential support and resistance zones for the current session.

How is the main pivot point calculated?

Pivot Point = (High + Low + Close) ÷ 3, using the previous trading session's data.

What do S1, S2, R1, R2 mean?

S1/S2/S3 are support levels below the pivot point, and R1/R2/R3 are resistance levels above it — traders watch these as likely reaction zones.

Do pivot points work on any timeframe?

They're most commonly calculated daily using the prior day's data, but can also be applied weekly or monthly depending on your trading style.

Are pivot points guaranteed support and resistance?

No, they're statistical reference levels based on historical price behavior — price can and does break through them, especially during high-volatility events.
